Abstract

Transvaginal tape (TVT) procedures is a treatment option for Stress urinary incontinence (SUI), offering a minimally invasive and effective solution. The tape is placed without tension, at the mid-portion of the urethra in the way that it reinforces the ‘functional’ pubourethral ligament and gets connected to the pubococcygeus muscles. TVT procedures are indicated for women with SUI, particularly those who have failed conservative treatments, such as pelvic floor exercises and behavioral modifications. Thorough history taking and evaluation including cough stress test, urinalysis and postvoid residual assessment is done before procedure. Multichannel Urodynamic Testing is done in selective cases with complicated SUI. Careful patient selection and proper technique are essential for optimal outcomes. While complications can occur, they are generally rare and manageable. Both approaches whether Retropubic or transobturator (both out–in and in–out) have similar long-term objectives and subjective cure rates, without any significant difference in the complication rates.
